7 Day Retake Plan for the Texas Life and Health Exam
· By GetLicensedTX · Nine North Solutions LLC
This plan is for two kinds of people. You failed the Texas Life and Health exam once and your next date is coming up. Or you already booked a retake in about seven days and need a schedule that fits real life.
You will not relearn the whole outline in a week. You can stop bleeding points in the places that already beat you. That is the whole point of this sprint.
If you have a month, stretch the same ideas across more days. If you have seven, follow the calendar below and keep it boring on purpose.
Before day 1: get your facts on paper
Pull whatever score detail you still have from the fail or from a recent practice test. Write a weak list while the memory is fresh. Texas law. Provisions. Underwriting. Tax themes. Health topics if you sat L and H. Ugly notes are fine.
Confirm the exact exam name on Pearson VUE. Life only and Life and Health are not the same outline. Studying the wrong one feels productive and wastes the week.
Check your retake window and fee so logistics are not eating mental space on day 6. Then take one free timed practice at getlicensedtx.com/diagnostic if you do not already have a current baseline. Rank the weak areas before you open any chapter.
Day 1: timed practice and a honest weak list
Start with a timed set under exam like conditions. Phone away. Clock on. Mark and move when you stall.
When you finish, do not dive into a random PDF. Read the area breakdown first. Circle the top two or three leaks. Those become days 2 through 5.
Write one plain sentence for each miss that still confuses you. If you cannot say the idea simply, it is still on the list tomorrow.
Day 2: Texas law first
Most Texas candidates under study state law because national life concepts feel more familiar from class. Law still shows up enough to swing a close score.
Do short drills. Ten to twenty questions. Read the explanation. Say the rule out loud in plain English. Then another small set later in the day if you have time.
Focus on the law themes that already tripped you. Do not try to memorize every statute number. Own the ideas the outline actually tests.
Day 3: keep law hot and add your next miss area
Open with a quick law warm up so yesterday sticks. Then spend the main block on your second weak area from the score report.
That might be beneficiaries, riders, underwriting, or something else that cost you points. Same habit as day 2. Short sets. Plain English restates. No marathon chapter reread.
Protect twenty minutes for paced questions even if the rest of the day is topical. The clock is part of the skill.
Day 4: provisions and policy types that tripped you
Provisions and policy types look alike when you are tired. Whole life versus term. What a rider actually changes. Who can change a beneficiary. Contestable period ideas.
Drill the ones that showed up on your weak list. When two answers sound right, pick the one that matches the rule you just practiced, not the one that feels safer.
End with a short mixed set so you practice switching topics the way the real exam does.
Day 5: tax themes or health, whichever hurt more
If tax items like MEC or 1035 ideas cost you points, give them a focused day. Short repeated drills beat one long cram.
If you sat Life and Health and health felt like a surprise, this is your health day. Disability income themes, major medical ideas, and related provisions deserve real time, not a skim at midnight.
Be honest. Do the side that actually dropped your score. Comfort studying the life topics you already know will not fix this attempt.
Day 6: mixed timed practice
Run a full mixed timed set. Treat it like a dress rehearsal. Same pacing habits you want tomorrow or the day after.
Review only the misses and the look alike traps. Do not rebuild a new study plan from scratch. Adjust the weak list if something new shows up.
If a concept still will not stick, ask the AI Study Tutor at getlicensedtx.com/tutor or drill that slice one more time tonight. Keep it narrow.
Day 7: light review and sleep
Light review only. Skim your weak list notes. Do a small set if it calms you. Do not open the whole book.
Confirm ID rules, arrival window, and appointment details. Pack what you need the night before so the parking lot is not your checklist.
Sleep matters more than one more chapter. A foggy brain on exam day undoes a solid week.
What not to do this week
Do not reread the whole book cover to cover. That is comfort work. Comfort work is how people stay busy and stay stuck.
Do not skip timed practice because untimed feels nicer. The real exam has a clock. If you never train with one, day 7 will feel like day 0.
Do not buy three new courses in a panic or switch exam types unless your career target changed. Fix the leaks you already know about.
